Course description:
This is an Integrated Training and Assessment four day course leading to a Lantra Award certificate in Basic Training. This course covers maintenance, cross-cutting and basic felling up to 200mm in diameter. It is suitable for "someone who intends to use the chainsaw for business, domestic or leisure activities, but does not intend to work in forestry or arboricultural activities or work on Forest Enterprise land, or fell material above 200mm in diameter."
This course aims to enable delegates to:
- Identify appropriate PPE
- Identify safety features on a chainsaw
- Identify faults and defects
- Maintain guide bar and sharpen chains as recommended
- Carry out manufacturers routine maintenance
- Start saw from cold and hot
- Assess hazards in relation to task and ascertain correct technique of dealing with same

Candidates are expected to bring their own protective clothing: boots, leggings, helmet and gloves (all chainsaw approved) or can be hired from instructor at extra cost.
