Course description:
This 8 week course provides you with a basic introduction to tracing your family tree, and combines both practical and theoretical skills, to enable you to research your ancestry more effectively. The emphasis of the course is learning to use the computer as a tool and resource.
You will learn to access various sites on the internet eg Scottish People to enable you to effectively trace your roots.
The Internet provides you with tremendous access to genealogical and family history resources and more become available everyday. Research your ancestors - when they lived, where they lived and what they did. Learn about Genealogy software, using a variety of resources, creating effective queries and using online reference sites. This class aims to combine both practical and theoretical skills, to enable you to research your ancestry more effectively. It will use research methods and information technology to develop your analytical skills and to increase your understanding of the web as a research resource. The emphasis will be on the practical application of computers to aid family historians in their task.
The course will involve a mixture of visits, research methods and information technology to develop your analytical skills to increase your understanding of the web as a research resource.
By the end of the course you should have the ability to confidently find your way around the vast information now available on the Internet.

Company or Course Certificate / Diploma
: Each successful candidate will receive Certification of Completion.
Entry requirements:
A basic knowledge of genealogy and of personal computers is a prerequisite for this short course.
