Scottish Qualifications Authority

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national body for qualifications in Scotland, responsible for developing, accrediting, assessing and certificating all qualifications other than degrees.  SQA is an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB) sponsored by the Scottish Executive Education Department.

Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

In 1997, the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) was established to provide an integrated quality assurance service for UK higher education.

The QAA is an independent body funded by subscriptions from universities and colleges of higher education, and through contracts with the main higher education funding bodies.

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) is an executive agency which operates independently and impartially in individual inspections and reviews of a range of learning provision, including further education subject and college reviews and community learning, whilst remaining directly accountable to the Scottish Ministers for the standards of its work.
